About me

Bauchet Tristan

I am graduated in Game Design from ESMA Rennes.

I have joined a team led by one of my professors to make a video game like an independent studio.
Our goal is to present this project to professionals and publish it (note that this project is not available in my portfolio at the moment as it is confidential).

I am invested in this project but my ambition is to integrate a big video game company, I have already discussed and validated that with my team.

I want to expand my knowledge and skills in design.

When I don't understand something, I research and learn.
I am open to self-reflection, enjoy presenting my view-point, and am receptive to the views of others.

I have a clear and precise organization in my work, professionally and personally.
I have a great oral communication skills and a great team spirit.

I can easly adapt to a new environnement, and I have no reservations about learning new software or work methods; in fact, I embrace such opportunities.

Main Skills

Game design

Game design.png

Game design was at the heart of my studies during my 3 years at ESMA Rennes.

I was the game designer of several projects and was quite often the group coordinator.

I am able to design 3Cs as well as prototype mechanics, to be able to test their validity.

Likewise, I have a systemic approach to design, for me every game systems must have a connection to others as much as it needs to have an interest in its unity.

I always try to flesh out the gameplay of my games by creating various possibilities around a single mechanic.

I analyze the subtleties of the games I play as much as possible, as I love understanding how things work.

Action, adventure, dynamic combat, immersion, enigma, tactics, and narration are things that I like to find in my creations.

Favorite games:

Zelda Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild, Tunic, VRising, Battlerite, Sifu, Okami, Final Fantasy 15, God of War 4-5, Monster Hunter World, and The Witcher 3.

In my opinion, a game designer should be:

Able to fully express themselves while helping others do the same.

By “others,” I mean your team and your players.

Level design

Level design is an integral part of game design and storytelling.

It is what illustrates and sublimates the game design and the narration.

It is all about managing the rhythm of the game, the complexity of the challenges and others.

I am able to create levels, evaluating their complexity and vary them, all by embracing game mechanics.

To me, the level designer is closer to the player than the game designer is.

I really enjoy transcribing the wishes of the game design with the playable environment, thinking about the possibilities that the player can explore.

Narrative design

Narrative design is also part of the great whole of design.

The narration, whether simple or abstract, involves the player emotionally.

Thinking about narrative progression on a micro, medium, or macro scale, makes me appreciate the development phase of my work as much as providing the player a narration ranging from simple details to screenplay revelation.

This allows a game to have an extra finishing layer to make an even bigger impression on the players.

I am capable of creating a cohesive universe, constructing characters, and engaging the player with quests tied to an overall narrative progression.

Secondary Skills

Team management

I have always appreciated teamwork. I feel like we progress faster when working together and confronting our ideas and point of view.

I have been a group coordinator on various occasions, and I still love it as much.

I am not interested in being the leader to lead and impose my ideas, but I like to share my vision on a project to make it work with my team.

Dancing

I have been practicing Breakdance/Hip-Hop for eight years now and I had the opportunity to participate in solo or team battles.

I also gave Breakdance classes to a small group of dancers who practiced other dance styles such as Modern-Jazz, classical or contemporary in order to create a choreography for an end-of-year festival.

Peace, love, unity, and fun are some of Hip-hop’s values that allowed me to open up to others.

Martial Art - Philosophy

I practiced Karate for six years and have always been interested in Martial Art, which brought me values of respect and taught me to put myself in another’s shoes.

The Artist Bruce Lee inspires me a lot and influences my way of seeing things through his vision of Yin and Yang (Tajitu).
